Welcome to Hamptons Sports and Leisure
A Sports, Leisure and Venue Centre focused around Community Activity. Formerly known as "The Marconi Social Club". The centre provides various community sports and social activities to the public and it's members Rooms are available to hire for various community and business functions and we pride ourselves to be the best in the area.
Who we are
- Founded in 1910 for the employees of the world-famous Marconi Wireless & Telegraph Company, who were probably the largest employers in Chelmsford.
- After outgrowing its former building in Victoria Road, The Marconi Club made the move to its present location on Beehive Lane in 1964. The original entrance has now been renamed “Tydemans”, with the caretaker’s cottage being redeveloped into flats.
- During 2011 – 2012 the site was fully redeveloped with the new centre opening its doors for the 1st time on the 5th November 2012.
- February 2017 saw major changes, BAE Systems (owners of the site) sold the building to a private owner. The Marconi name could not be retained, and Hamptons Sports and Leisure became the new name for the centre. Hamptons was chosen as “Hampton House” situated at the original entrance to the club was also part of the Marconi site.
What we offer
Conveniently location just off the A12 at Galleywood, we are a few minutes away from the Heat of Essex, the Cist of Chelmsford. We are easily accessible for the local and national visitors being only 30 mins from Stansted Airport just off the M25 and M11. London Liverpool Street is only 40 minutes away by train.
Weddings & Parties
Hamptons offer a fully air-conditioned Contemporary Hall with maximum seating capacity of 220 guests for your family’s special occasion with ample car park. Our Hall has features like fully sprung dance floor, elevated stage and lighting system perfect for weddings and parties. It’s a blank canvas which is adaptable for a wide range of events.
Conferences
The Hall is an excellent venue for large corporate meetings. We provide all the equipment needed to impress your delegates and make your conference a success. Conference equipment items are available for hire but must be pre ordered by the organiser. Hire equipment payment will be required when booking your conference. The Hall can be set up to your requirements, be it theatre style seating or Cabaret Style.
Catering
Hamptons kitchen provides business lunches for conferences and meetings, and a weekend takeaway service for Beefburgers, chicken burgers, chips and drinks.
Whether planning a personal event, such as birthday parties, anniversary or funeral reception, or a corporate event, such as a meeting or seminar we can provide catering options suited to you.
Sports Activities
We have 6 well maintained all weather floodlit artificial grass tennis courts, along with 3 squash courts (glass backed), which are England Squash standard.
A squash game lasts around 40 minutes so can fit into busy lifestyles and is a great family activity. You will find a thriving social scene at Hamptons where, leagues and competitions are organised. Hamptons squash courts are frequently used by England players to train. We have 10+ internal squash leagues catering for beginners and team players alike, as well as 2 men’s teams and one ladies team.

Whether it’s hitting the gym, going for a run, practicing yoga, or participating in group fitness classes, there are numerous ways to stay active and fit.
